Ililaș Ghimadutdinov ran the transport company Tattranscom. The helicopter pilot, Elmir Koniakov, an employee of the same company, also lost his life in the accident. The two were on board a private Robinson R44 helicopter, which was flying at low altitude in the area of the Asatli Park mountain resort, informs the Tass agency.
According to Russian authorities, the flight was not authorized and the helicopter crashed after hooking the cables of a ski lift.
A video recording the moment of the plane crash was shared on social networks.
Ghimadutdinov's death adds to a series of controversial deaths among Russia's economic elites. Last year, Andrei Badalov, vice president of the Transneft oil company, was found dead in Moscow after allegedly falling from a window.
Also in September 2024, Mikhail Rogachev, a former executive director of a major oil giant and former vice president of Yukos, was found dead in the Russian capital. According to preliminary information, he would have fallen from a window. He allegedly left a suicide note and a message to the family.
According to an investigation by the independent publication Meduza, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, launched on February 24, 2022, at least 14 Russian oligarchs in the energy and transportation sectors have died under circumstances considered suspicious.
