Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared, on Saturday evening, that he did not discuss the situation in Venezuela with President Nicusor Dan, but that he is following what is happening in this country, whose leadership Romania has not recognized, so our country does not have a consulate in Caracas.
“We had another such event in Nicaragua, when the former dictator Noriega was in a similar situation. We didn't have it right now (discussions with President Niculor Dan – no), but even if it is quite a distance from Romania, for sure, as a country we look carefully at what is happening in South America, in Venezuela, a country whose leadership was not recognized by the international community nor by Romania following the elections that were judged to be falsified, last year. Romania does not have an embassy in Caracas, the few Romanian citizens we have there are managed by the European Union's representation”, said Ilie Bolojan, on Saturday, at Digi 24, according to News.ro.
The Prime Minister of Romania emphasized that there were conflictual relations between the USA and Venezuela.
“Without being a specialist in international law, obviously following the relationship between the United States and Venezuela, it has been a conflictual relationship for many years, the United States accusing the dictatorial leaderships of Venezuela in recent years of drug trafficking, of encouraging crime, illegal migration, and as we know, for a period of time, basically, the United States Navy is in the area off the coast of Venezuela and hitting boats that are suspected of drug trafficking and so on. further. And so, from this point of view, it was certainly a special operation that is not usual, but I hope that the people of Venezuela will be able to establish a stable leadership and return to a democratic system”, added Bolojan.
What official position will Romania have?
He added that Romania will be in line with the position of the European Union.
“Romania will be in line with the position of the European Union and at this moment our Ministry of Foreign Affairs consults in such a way that there are united positions. Romanian citizens, at least, are very few citizens, they are managed by the European Union's representation and until now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no information that there are problems with Romanian citizens in Venezuela”, said Bolojan.
