The history of pastry shops in Bucharest begins in the 19th century, and the golden age of delicacies was to be dominated, in the interwar period, by famous places such as Capșa, Nestor, Scala and Casata.
Capşa was definitely a symbol of luxury and elegance, famous for its sophisticated cakes (such as Torta Capşa) and its high-society atmosphere. At the rival Nestor you could find an exotic variety of sweets, from kataif to truffles.
The staircase, strategically located next to the cinema, was ideal for dates, the combination of “cake + movie” being a very promising premise for a successful romantic episode.
In Romania, Casata was famous for its exceptional profiterole and more affordable prices.
But all this was once. See, on B365.ro, how the map of the delicacies of today's Bucharest is drawn.
