The US Attorney General announced on Saturday that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted and will stand trial in New York, the BBC reports. Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country on Saturday morning during the US attack on Venezuela.
Maduro is charged with “narco-terrorism conspiracy, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices against the United States,” Attorney General Pam Bondi announced.
“Soon, they will face the full wrath of American justice on American soil, in American courts,” Bondi added.
The attorney general did not specify the charges against Maduro's wife, Cilia Flores.
“On behalf of the entire US Department of Justice, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American people. My heartfelt thanks to our brave military personnel who completed the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international drug traffickers,” she added.
