The AUR party announced, on Monday evening, that it will support Anca Alexandrescu in the elections for Bucharest City Hall on December 7. She joins a growing number of candidates entering the race for the seat of general mayor, the best rated in the polls being Ciprian Ciucu (PNL), Daniel Băluță (PSD) and Cătălin Drula (USR).
Anca Alexandrescu, former presenter at Realitatea TV, who supported Călin Georgescu, is running independently for the position of mayor of the Capital, a position left vacant after the election of Nicușor Dan to the Presidency.
AUR announced last night that it supports Anca Alexandrescu in her endeavor, being the best-rated candidate from the “sovereignist zone”: “It's a sacrifice. I made it in December 2024 as well”, declared George Simion on Monday evening.
What votes can Anca Alexandrescu attract?
But from which electoral basins can the independent candidate Anca Alexandrescu get votes?
HotNews analyzed the votes obtained in Bucharest by George Simion, the AUR candidate in the 2024 and 2025 presidential elections, but also those collected by Călin Georgescu, whom Anca Alexandrescu publicly supported in the 2024 elections and often invited him on the show she moderated on Realitatea Plus.
Unlike AUR, Georgescu did not express his support for a candidate, rather he said that he does not recognize the elections and told the electorate that they should think twice “before validating a farce”. After this announcement, Alexandrescu said that Georgescu's message “is not about the candidates”, but “an x-ray of a long chain of abuses”.
How the people of Bucharest voted in November 2024
On November 24, 2024, in the 1st round of the presidential elections, Călin Georgescu obtained 132,653 votes in Bucharest, out of a total of 912,466 valid votes cast, according to the resultsvot.ro platform. With 14.54%, he ranked 3rd, after Elena Lasconi and Marcel Ciolacu.

The percentages obtained by Călin Georgescu ranged from 11.23% in Sector 1 to 19.46% in Sector 5, according to AEP data.
For his part, George Simion obtained 91,018 votes and finished in 5th place in the Capital, with 9.97% of the votes.
If we have to count, Călin Georgescu and George Simion gathered together in Bucharest, on November 24, 223,671 votes, the equivalent of 24.51% of the votes validly cast.
How was the vote in May 2025 in the Capital
The figures in 2024 are similar to those obtained by George Simion alone in the 1st round of the presidential election on May 4, 2025.
Out of 890,594 votes validly cast in Bucharest, George Simion obtained 220,823 votes, the equivalent of 24.80%. Analyzing, he was then losing almost 3,000 votes compared to what he got together with Georgescu six months before, but with a lower turnout he won 0.3% compared to the November calculation.
At that time, Nicușor Dan was significantly ahead of George Simion in the votes in the Capital. At that time general mayor, Dan obtained 361,497 (40.59%).
Votes from Bucharest in the 2nd round of 2025
With only two candidates left in the race, the 2nd round of the presidential elections on May 18, 2025 brought an increase in the number of votes for Simion in Bucharest. He then obtained 326,451 votes (30.35%).
On the other hand, Nicușor Dan obtained more than double the result of the first round – 749,291 (69.65%).
Low score for AUR in the previous elections for Bucharest
In the previous elections for Bucharest City Hall, from June 9, 2024, AUR supported Mihai Enache. He obtained 22,208 votes, being in 5th place with 3.04% of the votes, after NIcușor Dan, Gabriela Firea, Cristian Popescu Piedone and Sebastian Burduja.
What do opinion polls say?
Anca Alexandrescu is going with the fourth chance in the elections of December 7, after the three candidates of the parties in the governing coalition, according to the opinion polls of the last months. Her score varies between 10 and 18%.
A survey published on November 3 by Novel Research, commissioned by the National Liberal Party, puts it at 15% of voting intentions. Ciprian Ciucu is in first place in voting intentions for Bucharest City Hall with 26.4, in front of Daniel Băluță with 24.5%.
A survey carried out by Avangarde and published on October 26 indicates 18% voting intentions for Alexandrescu. According to the sociological research, the PSD mayor of sector 4, Daniel Băluță (25%) and the PNL mayor of sector 6, Ciprian Ciucu (23%) are currently in the first places in the preferences of Bucharest residents.
A CURS survey from October 19 also put Daniel Băluță, the current PSD mayor of District 4, in first place in voting intentions, with the same percentage of 25%. Cătălin Drula (USR) and Ciprian Ciucu (PNL) were tied for second place, each with 18%. In this survey Anca Alexandrescu has 10%.
In an Avangarde survey from August 31, Daniel Băluță and Ciprian Ciucu were tied, with 25% each, followed by Cătălin Drula with 20% and Anca Alexandrescu with 18%.
Who is Anca Alexandrescu?
Aged 53, Anca Alexandrescu is the daughter of the well-known journalist Horia Alexandrescu. She worked as a journalist, in the early 90s, for the Event of the Day and Ziua.
He started collaborating with the PSD in 1996, when he became a spokesman for the electoral campaign in the PDSR local elections and then director of the party's media monitoring department, according to his CV.
After 2000, he went to the Government where he became the adviser on communication issues of the Prime Minister Adrian Năstase, with whom he will work during the period when Năstase led the Chamber of Deputies.
Between 2009 and 2012, he advised Sorin Oprescu, who was then mayor of the Capital, on communication issues.
In 2012, Prime Minister Victor Ponta brought her into the Government as a paid state adviser. In 2016, she was appointed director of the public relations department within KMG Rompetrol.
After Ponta's departure from PSD, Liviu Dragnea brings her back to the party to take care of PSD's communication department. In February 2018, she is recommended and imposed by Dragnea as an advisor to the new Prime Minister of the Government, Viorica Dăncilă.
From 2020, she became a moderator on Realitatea Plus television, and from 2024 she had the main prime-time television show.
