A large avalanche took place on Friday in the Făgăraș Mountains, Bâlea Lac area, being accidentally triggered by two skiers in the area known as “Balcoane”, announces Salvamont Sibiu.
The avalanche had a runway of over 300 meters, starting from the upper area and reaching beyond the area of the kiosks at Bâlea Lac, according to the quoted source.
“The two skiers were not surprised by the mass of snow and escaped without physical injuries, managing to retreat safely,” said Salvamont Sibiu, which also posted a video clip of the avalanche on Facebook.
The recommendations of Salvamont Sibiu:
- Check the weather forecast before any mountain activity;
- Avoid practicing winter sports at altitudes above 1,800 m, where the risk of avalanches is high;
- Follow the marked routes and the instructions of the mountain rescuers.
