Călin Georgescu contested the legitimacy of the elections for the Capital City Hall, in a video message posted Sunday evening on his Facebook page, and also said that “anyone who claims” to speak on his behalf “chooses a lie”.
“Attention, I did not ask any party, new or old, to speak on my behalf. Anyone who claims to do so is choosing a lie,” declared Călin Georgescu.
The former presidential candidate is being sent to court in two cases, being accused including of legionary propaganda and complicity in the attempt to commit actions against the constitutional order.
“An illegitimate government cannot hold legitimate elections, neither in Bucharest nor anywhere else, and no one can convince me otherwise. We have the precedent of canceling the elections of December 6, 2024 and the masquerade of those of May 2025. Therefore, I cannot believe in these elections in Bucharest and I believe that the electorate should think twice before validating a farce organized under the guise of good,” declared Georgescu.
He recalled that December marks one year since the Constitutional Court's decision to cancel the 2024 presidential elections amid accusations of Russian interference in the campaign in Romania. Recently, in an interview for Cotidianul, President Nicușor Dan said that he can “affirm 100% that the important part of Călin Georgescu's campaign was directed from Moscow”.
“In an almost macabre way, on December 7, it is one year since the annulment of the elections that buried democracy and freedom in Romania, and now we are asked to legitimize the fraud from that time. For me, this is unacceptable, it is a line of dignity that no free man can cross. If those elections had not been annulled, we would not have needed elections in Bucharest today. When democracy returns to this country, I assure you, there will be elections free everywhere, not just in Bucharest. That's exactly why I can't get involved in any way, not because I refuse, but because I can't believe in these elections,” Călin Georgescu said.
