The commune is changing the rules for garbage collection. Residents may go into shock

New regulations regarding garbage segregation and waste collection in the Greater Poland commune are intended to reduce the number of unnecessary garbage truck trips and facilitate the fight against waste. In this way, the Śrem commune wants to improve the waste collection system and reduce costs.

According to the “Local Government Portal”, from January 2026, there will no longer be bulky waste collection from the property. Each resident will have to deliver them to the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point (PSZOK) on their own.

However, what may be most surprising is the change related to the verification of the filling level of the bags.
Śrem has new waste disposal rules from January 1. The garbage truck may not pick them up
The new rules give the garbage collection company the right to check how full the bags are. If the bag is not at least half full, the driver has the right to bypass it and not collect it.

As explained by the “Local Government Portal”, a new garbage collection schedule has also been introduced in Śrem, which will depend on the type of development and the season.
In apartment blocks, segregated waste (paper, glass, plastic, metal) will be collected every two weeks, and in single-family houses – once every four weeks. Mixed waste from apartment blocks will be collected every week, and from houses – every two weeks. Bio-green waste (grass, leaves) will be collected once every two weeks from March to November, and once a month in winter.
