Bad news for Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid: goalscorer Kylian Mbappe will be sidelined for around three weeks and will miss the Spanish Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid.

The French superstar, despite equaling Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time record of 59 goals in a year, failed to win any trophies. Now, an injury takes him out of the fight for the Spanish Super Cup.

Kylian Mbappe ends a fantastic 2025 in the worst possible way: ligament problems

According to the international media, including the French publication L'Equipe, cited by sportal.gr, medical tests showed that the 26-year-old forward suffered a small ligament injury. This injury will keep him out of the derby with Atletico Madrid, scheduled for January 8, in the semi-finals of the Saudi Arabian Super Cup.

Mbappe's return to the pitch is expected to take around three weeks. If his recovery goes smoothly, the Frenchman is expected to be available for Group Blanco's clash with Benfica in the final group stage of the Champions League on January 28.

  • In this competitive season, Kylian Mbappe is the main “mouth of fire” for Madrid: he played in 24 games in all competitions, scored 29 goals and provided 5 decisive assists. The Frenchman is quoted at 200 million euros by specialized websites.

The program of the people of Madrid in the first month of 2026

Madrid will start 2026 with a strong match at home. Xabi Alonso's side receive the visit of Betis in the first leg of La Liga of the new year. Next is the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, where the blanco group will play Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals, and if they win they will face Barcelona or Bilbao.

It will be followed by a duel with Levante in La Liga, then the match with Monaco in the Champions League, in the group stage, then the match with Villarreal in the domestic championship and the duel with Benfica in the Champions League.
