The French government wants to ban teenagers under 15 from using social media platforms and ban the use of mobile phones in high schools, Le Monde reported on Wednesday. According to the draft act cited by the daily, the changes would come into force from September 2026.

Discussion on the project, which has already been completed, should take place in early 2026. The government hopes that the regulations will be adopted in the first quarter. They would come into force in the fall of 2026, at the beginning of the next school year.
Le Monde emphasized that this proposal is in line with the opinions expressed by President Emmanuel Macron. The head of state announced that France may ban access to social media platforms for people under 15 years of age if the ban is not introduced at the European Union level.
Media in France reported on Wednesday that Macron may comment on the proposed changes in the evening of that day, in his New Year's address.
In France, the use of mobile phones is banned in primary and secondary schools. (PAP)
