Beets are the main ingredient of the New Year's table. It is needed for vinaigrette, herring under a fur coat, appetizers and even unusual desserts. But it takes a lot of time to cook it. A whole hour at the stove, a boiling pan, steam in the kitchen, and then cool it down, clean it and check if it’s ready inside.
In fact, everything is much simpler. Beets can be cooked in just 12 minutes in the microwave. It turns out juicy, rich, dark burgundy, with a whole structure inside and without a “cooked” smell.
Here's how to do it:
- Choose medium-sized beets, not large ones, so that they have time to fry evenly.
- Rinse it under water, but do not clean it.
- Prick the beets with a fork in several places to prevent them from bursting when heated.
- Wrap each beet in a damp paper towel or place in a bowl with two to three tablespoons of water.
- Cover the bowl with a lid or cling film with a small hole to allow steam to escape.
- Microwave at maximum power for 12 minutes.
- If the beets are large, add another two or three minutes.
Check readiness with a fork; it should go in easily, but without crunching. Let the beets cool for 5–7 minutes, peel them, and you can immediately cut them for salad. The color will remain bright and the taste will be sweet.
This way you will save 40-50 minutes on the busiest day and still serve real homemade beets, not store-bought or overheated ones.
Have a nice holiday!
