Dennis Hamlin, the father of Denny Hamlin (45), one of the best NASCAR drivers, died over the weekend after a fire destroyed the house where he lived with his wife, Mary Lou.

Denny Hamlin's parents, victims of a fire that destroyed their home
Over the weekend, the home of three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin's parents was destroyed by a devastating fire. Dennis and Mary Lou, Denny's parents, were at home and tried to escape the flames, but the NASCAR driver's father did not survive.
According to ESPN, firefighters arrived at their home on Sunday evening and found Denny Hamlin's parents outside the home, who were rushed to the hospital. Dennis, 75, has died, while Mary Lou, 69, is in a hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The fire damaged the structure of the Hamlin family homeand it failed, leading to the second tragedy in the NASCAR community in two weeks.
Denny Hamlin finished 2nd in the current NASCAR season
Denny Hamlin made his NASCAR debut in 2004 and over the course of more than two decades has won 60 races. He triumphed 3 times at the Southern 500 and the Daytona 500, being considered the greatest driver to never claim the title.
He races a Toyota Camry XSE for Joe Gibbs Racing and is the partner of the legendary Michael Jordan in the 23XI Racing team.
Hamlin finished the current season in second placebeing close to winning the title. In the end, the American was overtaken by Kyle Larson, while Chase Briscoe took the 3rd position.
