12 years ago today (December 29), the world of Formula 1 was shocked by the news of the serious accident suffered by Michael Schumacher (56 years old) while skiing. It's a date every year motorsports fans remember the legendary driver.
Exactly 12 years ago in 2013, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher suffered a serious brain injury while skiing in Meribel, France. Schumacher underwent several operations in hopes of saving his life and was placed in an induced coma, from which he emerged in the summer of 2014.

Since then, the legendary pilot requires round-the-clock care, but his real condition is kept in the strictest secrecy by his family.
“For me it is very important that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible,” said his wife, Corinna, according to sportal.bg.
Throughout his competitive career, his son Mick Schumacher has often spoken of his father's enormous influence. In the same documentary, he states that he would give anything to be able to speak with Michael again.
In 2025, no new information was provided about his condition, but the name of the Schumacher family appeared in the media in connection with a blackmail case.
Three men tried to blackmail the Schumacher family
Three men have been found guilty of attempting to blackmail the family, threatening to publish hundreds of photos, videos and personal medical records if they did not receive 15 million euros.
One of them received a three-year prison sentence, while his son received a six-month suspended sentence for complicity.
A former security guard at Schumacher's home, who denied any involvement, was given a two-year suspended sentence, prompting Michael's family to appeal, saying the sentence was too lenient.
