The German government has adopted a cautious position regarding the outcome of separate talks held over the weekend by US President Donald Trump with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We welcome President Trump's commitment to pursue a just and lasting peace in Ukraine that maintains Ukrainian sovereignty and European security”said the German government spokesman.
But the German executive's spokesman added that it was up to Moscow to end the war and that there was some discrepancy between what Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared to have said and what “translated into attacks on Ukraine over Christmas”, writes Agerpres.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met on Sunday with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, at his residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, after the US President had a telephone conversation with the Kremlin leader.
The meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump ended late Sunday night without any significant achievements, even though both leaders boasted of progress in the process of agreeing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
