Protest in Silesia. What are the miners fighting for?
According to the demands of trade unionists, the Ministry of Energy should guarantee Silesia employees – in the event of bankruptcy, liquidation or the employee's decision – an allocation for the mine closest to their place of residence.
They also demand that the ministry introduce to the Sejm an amendment to the mining act, which will cover Silesia (this concerns the protective instruments that, from January 1, 2026, the act amended in December provides to employees of companies with State Treasury shareholding that are closing down mines. It does not cover Silesia, because it is private). The amendment should be adopted by the end of January next year.
The miners are demanding a written guarantee from the owner of PG Silesia, i.e. the Bumech Group, as well as the court manager, that no consequences will be brought against the protesters, setting a date for the payment of the St. Barbara's Day award, as well as appointing a team whose aim will be to improve safety related to the low occupancy of workplaces.
