What disease did Mircea Lucescu have and what happened after he found out

Journalist Mitruț Docan published a very interesting and necessary article in Gazeta Sporturilor. He claims that we, the press, were wrong when we did not publish the diagnosis of Mircea Lucescu, from February.

“Through ill-conceived discretion, a reflection of the sensitivity of the times, it is likely that the Romanian press was wrong in the case of Mircea Lucescu, when it hid the severe diagnosis received by the selector in February 2026”. This is what Mitruț Docan writes, a balanced journalist, deep and clear in his opinions.

It does not run away from responsibility, it also refers to GSP. The journalist wonders if the FRF or even Lucescu would not have done something else if the disease had appeared, in its severity, publicly.

In the GOLAZO.ro editorial office, we held this discussion on February 2. Then we came into possession of definite, documented medical information, and were the first to publish press on the subject.

In December, Mircea Lucescu had been diagnosed with leukemia, a cancer of the blood. He immediately entered the national treatment program for this affliction. Like any Romanian citizen.

We found out at the end of January. The check took, it was confirmed and we consulted on February 2nd. We had different opinions about what to do.
