Large fire in Portland, USA. Two firefighters were injured


The fire broke out on Commercial Street around 5.30pm on Friday. The fire quickly spread to a dense 19th- and 20th-century development that was once the center of Portland's fishing industry and now houses restaurants and businesses, the AP reported Saturday.

Flames and smoke spread quickly, firefighters fought the fire in difficult conditions – frozen hydrants forced the rescue services to use a fireboat to extinguish the fire. At least one boat moored in the port sank at the pier and several others were damaged.
After two hours, firefighters extinguished the fire. Central Maine Power immediately began working to restore power to the area. The Portland Fire Department confirmed Saturday that two firefighters were slightly injured during the response. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
