Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, 48, has admitted everyone at the club is in limbo over the owners' plans to build a new stadium and training ground.

The Saudi owners of the sheds are currently evaluating options to either upgrade St. James' Park or move to a new location in an attempt to increase their trading income. At the same time, although significantly improved, the training base remains inferior to that of many competitors.

Asked how the club could progress in the coming years, Howe stated: “Fundamentally looking at the club from a wider perspective, you see the training ground, the stadium – that part of the club is in limbo at the moment.

In terms of the direction in which Newcastle will develop, if work is done in this direction, it would be a big step forward. But when we have clarity about this, we can look to the future in a truly positive way. And that would have a completely different effect on everything we do, it would totally change the level,” he said, quoted by sportal.bg.

Uncertainty at Newcastle

“Firstly I want to talk about our academy. The brilliant work we do down there would have different results if the conditions were improved, at another level. I don't think facilities like pitches and bases are the be all and end all, but they are a great way to set higher standards and show your ambition in a clear and strong way and that would be a game changer when it happens,” added Eddie Howe.

The current management have invested heavily, around £450m in the lot since purchasing the club from former owner Mike Ashley in October 2021, but building the club's infrastructure has proved more difficult. However, Howe expects progress in this direction as well. Then he added about the necessary conditions for the men's team.

“The same goes for the training ground. You need the right ground and the right design. I'd rather it be done right, the way it needs to be, rather than rushed. I know there's a 99.99% chance I won't see either in my position, but I'm still passionate that this will be available for future generations of Newcastle, whether it's fans or players,” explained the coach.
