The subtle messages of foreign embassies for Romania: threats from Russia, friendship from the USA, solidarity from France

Shortly before the end of 2025, the embassies of the countries that make the games in international politics sent more or less subtle messages to Romania through posts on social networks.

Romania's external position is also reflected in the messages sent, around the end of the year, by the embassies of the countries that make the games in foreign policy. “Truth” reviews these messages.

A warning comes from the Russian Embassy by posting a part of the interview of the director of the Second European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Yuri Pilipson, for the TASS news agency (December 21, 2025).

Iuri Pilipson comments on Romania's National Defense Strategy adopted in November 2025: “it is a new example of the visionless politics of the current elites in Bucharest, which demonstrates the lack of desire to look at things objectively and de facto programs a long-term confrontation with our country.”

The Russian official continues with an even more scandalous message: “In reality, the threat to Romania's national security is not Russia, as stated in the mentioned document, but Bucharest's pursuit of an aggressive and adventurous course by the EU and NATO, whose leaderships, in turn, are willing, for the sake of their own selfish interests, to bring the world to the brink of World War III. It is unlikely that these people realize the true meaning of such a gloomy prospect.”

The director of the Second European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also says that the mentioned National Strategy “rather, it represents a set of inventions designed to blame Russia for the deterioration of the social and economic situation in Romania, to justify the increase in military spending in the eyes of its own citizens, who, in turn, suspect that a significant part of the funds allocated “for defense“, as often happens, does not reach its intended destination.”

Romania, among the USA's closest friends and allies

From the US Embassy, the message comes through the voice of Michael Dickerson, Charge d'affaires of the embassy. “Good morning and Merry Christmas,” he said in Romanian. Then the message continued in English: “Looking back at the past year, we have many reasons to celebrate. The US and Romania share a strong and ever-growing partnership based on common values and strategic interests.”

Dickerson argues that Americans and Romanians are united by the values we celebrate this season: peace, family and commitment to freedom.

“As we cherish the moments spent with loved ones during the holiday season, we look to the new year. The year 2026 marks an important moment for America: 250 years since the founding of the United States of America. We can't wait to share this special anniversary year with our closest friends and allies, like Romania. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.” he concluded.

On December 19, a message was posted on the Facebook page of the American Embassy that became the target of thousands of ironic comments: “Since taking office, President Trump has brought the United States to a historic level of peace, power, and security. The American people should be proud of this administration and what it has accomplished in just 11 months.”. The message accompanied by an image of a Trump portrayed as a strong and determined leader reminded Romanians who commented on the newspaper Scânteia or Russia Today.

Message from France: solidarity and empathy can change the wolf from the east

After the video message published on December 9, with Presidents Macron and Dan talking about Franco-Romanian friendship and collaboration, the French Embassy posted, on December 16, a heartfelt message of solidarity and empathy. Basically, it's an ad for a French chain of stores that “shows us what solidarity and empathy mean.”

The commercial has an animated sequence that alludes to the war in Ukraine: a wolf, which all the animals in the forest avoid so that it does not reach its lunch or dinner, decides to change its eating style and stop eating its neighbors.

The advertisement was accompanied by the following message:

“The Christmas advertisement of a chain of shops 🇫🇷 has conquered the public in France and around the world with an emotional story, made without the help of artificial intelligence. A choice that reminds us that nothing can replace human sensitivity and creativity. The song of Claude François, “Le Mal-aimé”, chosen especially to sensitize the younger audience, comes to create a link between generations. Imagined by the agency Romance and made by Illogic Studios, this animation shows us what stands for solidarity and empathy. Refined drawings and careful production make this clip a true manifesto for the savoir-faire of the French animation industry, which is already recognized internationally. Through stories, images and emotions, French creations continue to unite people across borders.”.

The German Embassy warns us about disinformation

In addition to the numerous messages related to various cultural events in Romania and those specific to Christmas, on the FB page of the German Embassy in Bucharest there is an event organized by the diplomatic institution on the topic: “How can we build resilience in times of external manipulation and disinformation campaigns?”

The embassy organized a conference where various specialists from the mass media spoke.

“We live in a time when information flows faster than ever and our world is increasingly connected. Our societies rely heavily on information. Information underpins our politics, economy, culture, beliefs and ultimately our decisions. Yet truth, science and hard facts are contested more than ever. Disinformation is no longer just misleading content. It is a strategic weapon aimed at undermining our open societies, our democratic institutions and the rule of law. Therefore, we need informed and responsible citizens who know how to navigate the modern information environment“, emphasized Ambassador Angela Ganninger in her opening remarks.

Dana Scherle, coordinator of DW Romania and Dr. Stefan Hofmann, director of the Konrad-Andenauer-Stiftung Romania highlighted the importance of resilience against disinformation in order to strengthen our democracy.

Great Britain emphasizes economic collaboration

The British Embassy, in addition to the many messages specific to the winter holidays, shared a post by President Nicușor Dan on the occasion of his visit to London, at the invitation of King Charles.

“In London, in one of the most competitive economic ecosystems in the world, I had an applied dialogue with Romanian businessmen from the United Kingdom. The message from the business environment was clear: there is a need for greater openness on the part of the Romanian state, genuine collaboration and functional partnerships.

Entrepreneurs emphasized the importance of institutional support for accelerating digitization and supporting startups as essential factors for development and innovation.

At the same time, the meeting with representatives of the British business environment reconfirmed Romania's commitment to strengthen commercial and economic relations with the United Kingdom and to encourage British investors to continue coming to our country. I will continue to encourage investments that bring to Romania state-of-the-art technology, new well-paid jobs and which, by increasing domestic production, will help us reduce the trade deficit.

Innovation, supporting entrepreneurship and building a solid bridge between the diaspora and Romania remain priorities for the sustainable development of our country.

Romania is knocking on Turkey's door with strategic partnerships

The Turkish Embassy posted on FB a message from the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru, in which he reports on the discussion with His Excellency Özgür Kıvanç Altan, the ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Romania.

We talked about the real opportunities for cooperation between Romania and Turkey, about how we can accelerate bilateral investments and about the role of European funds in the development of ambitious projects with a direct impact on citizens.

Our discussion reiterates that the partnership between our states is not only a diplomatic framework, but also a tool through which we can generate concrete results in areas such as infrastructure, innovation, economic and social exchanges.

Romania and Turkey already have a solid basis for collaboration, and what we aim to do is turn it into a development engine for the entire region.

The very good dialogue we had reconfirms our openness and determination to build strategic partnerships based on trust, pragmatism and shared vision.
