You can determine the acidity of the soil in an area using a simple folk method – using an infusion of black currant or bird cherry leaves. This method does not require special equipment and allows you to quickly understand whether the soil needs liming or other measures. The method was shared on the channel “Dacha Answers” (18+).
First, take 3-4 leaves of black currant or bird cherry and brew them in a glass of boiling water.
Secondly, wait until the infusion has cooled, then strain it.
Third, place a small clump of soil from your site in a glass.
Observe the color change of the liquid:
- Red tint – the soil is acidic;
- A greenish tint means the soil is slightly acidic;
- A bluish tint means the soil is neutral.
