Zelenskiy announces that he discussed with the US emissaries Witkoff and Kushner “important details of the efforts” for peace in Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Thursday that he spoke by phone with US emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, after the day before he revealed the details of the new US plan to end the war with Russia, according to AFP and Reuters.

“We discussed some important details of the ongoing efforts. There are good ideas that can contribute to a common outcome and lasting peace.”Zelensky wrote on Facebook.

The Ukrainian president said he had a “very good discussion” with the American emissaries and thanked them for “their constructive approach, their hard work and their kind words”writes Agerpres, citing the two foreign agencies.
“I hope that the agreements reached today, on the occasion of Christmas, and the ideas we discussed will prove useful”Zelensky continued.
The Ukrainian leader revealed on Wednesday the new version of the American plan aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, negotiated for weeks between Washington and Kiev.
The text foresees the freezing of the war on the current front lines, without offering an immediate solution to the thorny problem of the territories occupied by Russia, which represent over 19% of Ukraine.
The new version omits two major Russian requirements
Unlike the original version of this document, drafted by the Americans, the new version omits two major demands from Moscow: the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donbas territories still under their control and a legally binding commitment from Kiev not to join NATO.
An agreement by Moscow to this new version seems, for this reason, unlikely. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that Moscow was “formulating its position” and declined to provide details.
