The British citizen Imran Ahmed, one of the five European personalities engaged in the strict regulation of the technological industry and the fight against online disinformation, who are prohibited from staying in the United States, filed a complaint against the Trump administration, fearing that he will be expelled from the country where he lives, AFP reports, taken over by Agerpres.

He now faces “the imminent prospect of unconstitutional arrest, punitive detention and deportation,” according to the complaint filed Wednesday in a New York court.

Imran Ahmed, a 47-year-old British citizen of Afghan descent, has been a legal resident of the United States since 2021 and holds a green card, according to his complaint. His wife and daughter are American citizens.

“The federal government has made it clear that Imran Ahmed is being sanctioned for the activity of the NGO he founded and led, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH),” the complaint adds.

This center studies the moderation policies of the main social media platforms and has repeatedly denounced the practices of the X network, the former Twitter network of Elon Musk, an ally of the US president.

The Trump administration on Tuesday announced sanctions targeting five European figures committed to strict regulation of the technology industry and combating online disinformation, including Imran Ahmed, who heads the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), and Clare Melford, who heads the UK-based Global Disinformation Index (GDI).

The other European personalities sanctioned by Washington are former European Commissioner Thierry Breton, Anna-Lena von Hodenberg, founder of the German NGO HateAid, and Josephine Ballon, from the same organization.

The five personalities are accused of “censorship” to the detriment of American interests, according to the US State Department.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers, Justice Secretary Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, as well as US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons, are among those targeted by Imran Ahmed's complaint.
