“Resists Attack in Packs.” As Romania TV and Realitatea Plus reported the press conference of the management of the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The boss Realitatea was convicted and imprisoned, and then declared innocent by the CAB itself

The two stations had the same message during the press conference led by judge Liana Nicoleta Arsenie, PaginadeMedia writes.

Reality TV: “Retort for the resisters who attack in a pack”, respectively Romania TV: “The resisters attack in a pack to seize justice” – these were the messages that the viewers of the two TV stations read during the press conference on Thursday.

Thursday's event, a first in the history of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, was broadcast by all news stations and took place two days after the Recorder publication published a documentary: “Captured Justice”.

The film is an investigation about the state of justice in Romania, the phenomenon of statutes of limitations, but also the effects of the centralization of power at the level of “some magistrates who coexist with politicians”.

In the Recorder documentary, the military prosecutor Liviu Lascu, Crin Bologa, the former chief prosecutor of the DNA between the periods of Laura Codruța Kovesi and Marius Voineag, but also a prosecutor from the DNA and a judge from the Court of Appeal, who spoke anonymously, were interviewed.

Claudiu Sandu, representative of the prosecutors in the CSM, said that the excessively formal interpretation of the law led to the annulment of the evidence in the file “for anything”, for what he metaphorized as “a comma”.

“We ended up reinventing the law,” said Sandu, who said that “I don't remember a big guilty verdict lately.” The massacre of the idea of justice, said Sandu, demobilizes the magistrates and disarms the citizens.

Who are the people who control Realitatea Plus and Romania TV

Realitatea Plus and Romania TV have some elements in common. The first: 15 years ago there was only one television – Reality TV. In 2011, the businessman Sebastian Ghiță, who at that time only owned the management of Realitatea TV (owned by Sorin Ovidiu Vîntu) launched his own television, RTV, which closely resembled Realitatea TV. Basically, the Realità editorial office split into two.

Sebastian Ghiță would then flee the country in December 2016, being in Serbia since then.

The Realitatea TV station would eventually reach the businessman Maricel Păcuraru, who obtained a new television license – Realitatea Plus, which took the place of the bankrupt Realitatea TV.

Maricel Păcuraru was sentenced to prison with execution in a corruption case in 2014. Păcuraru was released in 2017, and in May 2025, the Bucharest Court of Appeal definitively annulled his conviction.
