Christmas brought snow and sleet to the southern half of the country, which is under a yellow snow code, until today at 20.00. However, there are no roads closed due to the blizzard, while efforts are being made to clean them, the Infotraffic Center announces.

The yellow code for snow, intensification of wind and hail affects Dobrogea, Muntenia and southern Banat. The weather warning is valid until 20:00. In these areas, temporarily, the wind will increase with speeds of 50-70 km/h, ANM announces.

More than 25 cm of snow in some areas

At the same time, today, December 25, in the first part of the day “in Muntenia, the south of Oltenia and in the north of Dobrogea, the wind will blizzard the snow, and the visibility will temporarily drop below 100 m”.

In Oltenia it will continue to snow blizzard until the evening. Meteorologists have also announced that, in certain areas, a layer of snow will be deposited that can even reach 25 cm.

More precisely, “in the west of the Southern Carpathians and in Oltenia, a layer of snow will be deposited between 10 and 20 cm thick and isolated over 25”.

The weather in Bucharest on December 25: start of snow of up to 8 cm

Bucharest is also under a code yellow weather warning. Meteorologists also announced that the weather will be much colder than normal for that date.

“During the day, the sky will be cloudy, and in the first hours it will snow lightly and another 1-2 cm will fall, so the thickness of the snow layer will be 5-8 cm”, writes the special ANM forecast for Bucharest.

Meteorologists also announced that, in the early hours of the morning, the wind will intensify with gust speeds of 45-55 km/h, which will amplify the feeling of cold.

From the evening hours, the sky will gradually clear, and the wind will decrease considerably in intensity, blowing moderately (gusts up to 20-30 km/h).

The maximum temperature will be around -2 degrees, and the minimum will be -7, -5 degrees.

How to get around the country

At 6:30 a.m., no national road or highway was closed due to weather conditions, the Infotraffic Center announced.

“In the southern half of the country (in the counties under Yellow Code warning), there are generally precipitations in the form of light snow, with intensification of the wind, the traffic is mainly carried out on a wet roadway”, the press release on the traffic situation reads.

On the main roads, namely the A1 Bucharest – Pitesti, A2 Bucharest – Constanța, A3 Bucharest – Ploiești highways, there are light precipitations in the form of snow, side wind, with light deposits on the roadway, traffic values ​​being reduced. It works with tools and non-slip material.
