  • These guarantees should complete discouragement and defense measures on the eastern flank and include specific measures for the Black Sea region.

European leaders will consult on Wednesday with Trump and Zeenski

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to consult with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and European leaders in the Ukraine, the Berlin government said on Monday.

The video conference will take place before the meeting on Friday, Alaska, of US President Donald Trump with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, devoted to the conclusion of the Ukraine.

Prior to the discussions with President Trump and JD Vice Vice President, a virtual meeting between Merz, Zelenski and the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland and Finland, a spokesman for the German government, quoted by DPA and Agerpres, said.

It is expected that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte will participate in this telephone discussion.

The planned meeting between Trump and Putin will take place over three years after Russia invaded Ukraine, and the German government emphasized the importance of involving Ukraine in any peace solution.

The summit could be “a very, very important moment for the subsequent evolution of this terrible war,” the deputy spokesman of the German government, Steffen Meyer, told Monday.

He referred to the statements of the Merz Chancellor, who explained to the German public television station that is based on the involvement of the Ukrainians.

The spokesman said that “if the purpose is to achieve a truly durable and fair peace, then it is completely excluded to obtain this over the head of the Ukrainian people.”

Poland also stressed the involvement of Ukraine in any peace solution before the planned meeting between Trump and Putin.

Kiev firmly rejects any territorial concessions.
