'The Daily Show' charges 'sleepy' Trump in hilarious Christmas montage. The film even has the voice of the US president in the background

In the spirit of the holidays, US satirical show 'The Daily Show' sent a festive message to Donald Trump with a funny video teasing him about his habit of falling asleep during public events.

The Daily Show is an American political satire and humor show that comments on current affairs and public events, often poking fun at politicians and celebrities. On its social media accounts, the show posted a video on Tuesday titled: “Merry Christmas everyone, and to Donald Trump, good night“. The montage combines several clips of the president falling asleep, accompanied by audio of Trump's statements on various occasions: “Who the hell sleeps in front of the press?”.

The irony is that while Trump has often criticized moments when Joe Biden appeared to fall asleep, calling him “sleepy joe,” in the show's montage, it's actually Trump who sleeps the most, The Daily Beast reports. His head repeatedly falls against the backdrop of a welcoming fireplace as his voiceover asks, “How can you sleep in front of the press?” and continues ironically: “And he sleeps soundly, see the drool running down his cheek.”

“Who the hell would want to sleep with these people looking at you?” says Trump. “I wouldn't be able to fall asleep in such conditions”.

The comments that fueled the montage

Many of the lines used in the video were delivered by Trump in April during a Republican National Committee dinner. Then he mocked Joe Biden: “He's the president, so he had minimal photographers, but he still had photographers. And he could still fall asleep“. In the same context, Trump continued: “He was turning and drooling. He didn't care. His wife didn't care either. It's a skill I couldn't possibly have. I would be very conscious of my body and how I look.”

The irony is that, as the satirical show points out, Trump himself has been caught several times falling asleep during press conferences and cabinet meetings. In December, the MAGA leader was spotted sleeping during meetings. When asked about such an episode on December 9, White House press secretary Liz Huston said: “The Daily Beast is a no-nonsense publication that spreads lies about President Trump on a daily basis”.

Critics, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, have nicknamed him “Dozy Don” for his public moments where he falls asleep.

Still, the show managed to inject some humor and Christmas spirit, ending the montage with a quote from Trump from an interview with podcaster Andrew Schulz last year: “You will never see me sleeping in front of the cameras“.
