SuperLiga: FC Botoșani finished the year two points behind the leader, but Leo Grozavu warns: “This is still the active goal”

Leo Grozavu, the coach of FC Botoșani, stated that the team's objective remains to save from relegation, despite the results above expectations obtained in the first part of the season.

After 21 stages, FC Botoșani is in 3rd place in the SuperLiga, with 38 points, just two less than the leader Universitatea Craiova. However, Grozavu recalls the case of the Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe team, which was relegated at the end of the previous season, although it fought until the last moment to qualify for the play-offs.

“Botoșani struggled, in general, in the lower part, saved itself at the potou. But now it's different, because, being at the top, we are facing opponents who are very well organized from all points of view, financially, logistically. It's not easy!

There are so many examples in Europe of teams that went one season in the European cups, but the next year they collapsed, they were relegated. The situation also helped us now, let's be realistic!, we also had quite a chance, because some of the clubs subscribed to the first places started the championship very badly.

It's not modesty at all (don't consider that the objective remains saving from relegation). We have the example of Sepsi not far from last season. A team that fought until the end to enter the play-offs, finished in seventh place in the regular season, after which it was directly relegated. For this reason we have to be extremely careful, because only the play-off guarantees us that we will then have a quieter championship. Only then will we be able to propose other plans.

Let's not forget where we started this season! If we lost at home to Hermannstadt in the last stage of the last championship, we were relegated directly. That's why the still active objective is to save ourselves and finish in a higher place compared to previous years”, said Grozavu, quoted by gsp.ro.

Until the end of the regular season, FC Botoșani will face Csikszereda (away), Universitatea Craiova (d), Oțelul Galați (home), FCSB (d), Metaloglobus (a), UTA Arad (d), Universitatea Cluj (a), FC Hermannstadt (d) and Petrolul Ploiești (a).
