“Today we are witnessing a real defiance of the law in the Caribbean Sea, where the long-forgotten theft of the property of others, namely piracy and robbery, are being revived”, said the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zaharova, about this situation.

We permanently support a de-escalation” of the situation, said Zaharova.

“We hoped that the pragmatism and wisdom of American President Trump would allow finding solutions that would be mutually acceptable to the parties involved, within the framework of international legal norms”she also said.

“We confirm our support for the efforts of the government of Nicolas Maduro, aimed at protecting sovereignty and national interests and maintaining the stable and secure development of his country”said Zaharova.

The US has moved a significant number of military aircraft and troops to the Caribbean region this week.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which cites US officials and data from open flight monitoring sources, the deployment includes aircraft used by special forces and military transport planes loaded with personnel and equipment.

The deployment takes place in a context of heightened tensions between Washington and Caracas. President Donald Trump's administration has recently stepped up measures against the Venezuelan government, including blocking oil tankers entering and leaving the country.

On November 29, Donald Trump announced the “closure of airspace” over Venezuela and neighboring areas. The statement came after several US actions against ships near the Venezuelan coast, which the US authorities say are involved in drug trafficking activities.

The American president recently stated that he does not rule out the possibility of a military conflict with Venezuela, although no official decisions have been announced in this regard.
