Biden Jr. called Ukraine a “snake's nest” of corruption

He called his father's team members “really disgusting” and “hypocrites.” The politician's son claims the Obama administration forced him to start “from scratch” by giving up his lobbying business even though he was helping them “both legally and politically.”

Biden's son mentioned his activities on the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings, highlighting the high level of corruption in Ukraine.

“I was very, very naive about what a den of vipers Ukraine is. What an absolute, outrageous level of corruption there is,” Biden Jr. said.

He considers working for a Ukrainian company an “absolute mistake,” but not because he “did something” and is ashamed, but because of the “political position” he got into.

NYP notes that Burisma Holdings paid Hunter Biden $1 million a year, despite having no experience in the natural gas industry.

Context

Biden Jr. worked on the board of directors of Burisma, which is associated with the ex-Minister of Ecology in the government of Mykola Azarov, Nikolai Zlochevsky. After the change of power in Ukraine in 2014, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine investigated the activities of Burisma, but the case was later closed. In 2016, Biden Sr. demanded the dismissal of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, threatening that the United States would not allocate $1 billion to Ukraine. credit guarantees.

In March 2019, the then Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko hinted that Shokin’s resignation was related to criminal proceedings, which contained materials that members of the board of directors of Burisma, including Biden’s son Hunter, received $17 million, the origin of which was questionable. In May, Lutsenko emphasized that his department had no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Joe Biden or his son Hunter.

The situation with Biden's son became the cause of a foreign policy conflict and the initiative to launch impeachment proceedings against then US President Donald Trump in Congress. As a result, the lower house of Congress – the House of Representatives – impeached him, and the upper one – the Senate – rejected both articles of accusation.

Hunter Biden's work at Burisma became one of the topics of election debates between his father and Trump. Joe Biden criticized Trump's calls to investigate Hunter Biden's activities in Ukraine and said that his son didn't do anything wrong.
