The qualified teams in the Final 8 of the Romanian Cup are known! Dinamo's excellent comeback against Rapid

SCM U Craiova, CSM Târgu Mureș, CSA Steaua Bucharest and Dinamo Bucharest are the last 4 teams qualified for the Final 8 of the Romanian Men's Basketball Cup. The final tournament will take place in February, in Oradea.

Today, December 23, the 4 matches of the round of 16 return of the Romanian Cup took place. All the games were won by the teams that had lost in the round, and 3 of the 4 winners qualified for the Final 8 of the Romanian Cup.

SCM U Craiova and CS Dinamo București qualified after extra time in the Final 8

The evening started with the 3rd duel within a week between FC Argeș Basketball and SCM U Craiova. In the round, the people from Pitesti had won by 3 points (95-92). This time, the game was controlled by the blue-whites, who won the first two quarters and led by 12 points at halftime: 40-28.

After the return from the locker room, the confrontation was balanced, but in the end it seemed that the Oltenians will prevail with a difference that will ensure their qualification in the “quarters” of the Cup. FC Argeș Basketball made a miraculous comeback in the last seconds, brought the score to 73-76, so the dispute went into overtime.

There, SCM U Craiova played better and won 91-82overturning the result in the tour and causing a wave of comments from the people of Pitesti, who demand accountability from the management, the head coach Nebojsa Vidic and the players.

A much more unbalanced match followed. After losing in the round by a single point, CSM Târgu Mureș dominated CSU Sibiu and won 105-85, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Cup.

CSA Steaua București, return to the final and qualification for the “quarters” of the Romanian Cup

A few days after the surprising victory with CSM CSU Oradea, Steaua Bucharest received the visit of Corona Brașov, a team it had beaten in the round by 9 points. However, Andrei Mandache's students performed very modestly, and Florin Nini's band led from start to finish.

A few minutes before the end, it seemed that the team from Brasov would be able to reverse the result in the round. Several successful actions by the “military” followed, and finally even though it prevailed 66-59, Corona Brașov missed the access to the Final 8.

The last game of the evening was the one between Dinamo Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest, the team from Ștefan cel Mare starting from -10. The hosts dominated their opponents and took advantage of a second quarter winning 28-12.

Just like in Pitesti, Rapid came back at the end and reduced the difference to 10 points, score 89-79 for Dinamo, so the match went into overtime. The people of Giulești were totally outgunned, they couldn't face it again Dinamo won 101-85, getting the last qualification ticket in the “quarters” of the Cupsi.

So, the 8 teams qualified for the Final 8 are: U-BT Cluj-Napoca, CSM CSU Oradea, CS Vâlcea 1924, CSO Voluntari, CSA Steaua Bucharest, CS Dinamo Bucharest, CSM Târgu Mureș and SCM U Craiova.

The final tournament will take place in Oradea, in February. Last season, the trophy was awarded by CSO Voluntari, after a final with CSM CSU Oradea, which also took place in the city on the banks of the Crișului.
