Former PiS MP detained
The Goniec.pl portal reported on Wednesday morning that Jan R., former PiS MP Maks K. and banker Paweł P. were detained by CBA officers. According to reports, the detentions were related to the practice of obtaining MBA diplomas at the Management Academy of Applied Sciences, then headed by Paweł C., currently a suspect in the case regarding Collegium Humanum.
Diplomas were to be issued despite the lack of real studies and then used in recruitment processes for key positions in state-owned companies.
Ambassador at the minister's disposal
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maciej Wewiór, confirmed in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that Ambassador Jan R. made himself available to the minister. — Minister Radosław Sikorski decided to release the ambassador from managing the facility until all doubts are clarified, Wewiór explained. He added that the duties of the head of the mission in France were now taken over by titular ambassador Wiesław Tarka, whom he described as a “very experienced diplomat”.
According to information from Gońca.pl, Jan R. allegedly used a fake MBA diploma, which enabled him to take up a position on the supervisory board of Bank Pocztowy, owned by Poczta Polska. The prosecutor's office is investigating whether the diploma was issued without actual studies. According to the portal, the ambassador pleaded not guilty, but was charged with several charges, including using a forged document.
A large-scale operation
Jan R. was detained on Tuesday at the Chopin airport in Warsaw. The diplomat was then transported to Katowice, where interrogations and confrontations were held at the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office. According to the portal's sources, the activities ended on Wednesday around 4 a.m. Maks K. and Paweł P. were detained on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and transported to Katowice to provide explanations.
The investigation concerns a broad practice of falsifying academic documents that were to be used to obtain positions in State Treasury companies. According to reports, the case also involves other people, including the former rector of Collegium Humanum, Paweł C. – suspected of directing this practice.
