In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the chairman of a garage cooperative was convicted of stealing money and illegally connecting water supply

In Zheleznogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, police detained the chairman of a garage cooperative, suspected of theft of more than 3 million rubles and illegal connection of water supply.

It was established that the man, from 2019 to 2024, systematically collected 15,000 rubles a year from members of the cooperative to pay for water and heating supplies, but instead of using the contributions received for the intended purpose, he spent them on personal needs. This led to the generating company cutting off the water supply to the cooperative due to the resulting debt.

“Despite this, the chairman did not take action to pay off the debt, but instead illegally connected the cooperative to the water supply and continued to collect money from the owners of 86 garages. In November 2023, when a pipe burst in the cooperative, the owners fixed the accident on their own and, when contacting the service provider, learned about the cooperative’s huge debt. Investigators found out that all collected contributions did not go to the cooperative’s accounts, but directly to the personal account of the chairman. In fact, no documentation was kept on the receipt and expenditure of funds. The total amount of stolen funds amounted to 3,239,056 rubles, which qualifies as theft on an especially large scale,” the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Based on this fact, a criminal case was opened under Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Misappropriation or embezzlement”, the sanction of which implies a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with a fine of up to one million rubles.
