Top dressing for currants and gooseberries “in reserve”: I bury these peelings in the trunk circle – the bushes are bursting with berries in the summer

While the garden is preparing for winter, smart summer residents are laying the foundation for the future harvest. A simple secret that our grandmothers knew about – potato peelings. This is not waste, but a valuable fertilizer that will be processed over the winter and give the bushes a strong start in the spring.

What's the secret? Potato peel is a real storehouse of starch, glucose and potassium. Currants and gooseberries have a big sweet tooth. This feeding:

  • Increases the size and sweetness of berries
  • Stimulates the growth of new shoots
  • Improves soil structure

What you will need:

Potato peelings (fresh or pre-dried);

  • Shovel;
  • Warm water for irrigation.

Step-by-step fertilizer recipe:

Preparation of cleanings

Rinse fresh peelings and dry them in the oven at 100°C for 20-30 minutes or freeze them on the balcony in a container.

Laying in the soil

Step back 30-40 cm from the center of the bush.

Dig a groove 15-20 cm deep.

Spread the peelings evenly.

Dig in with soil and tamp lightly.

Final stage

Pour warm water over it.

Mulch with fallen leaves or peat.

The bushes will wake up earlier and produce powerful shoots and large leaves. During the flowering period there will be an abundant ovary, and in the summer the branches will really bend under the weight of large sweet berries!
