the new power unit of the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 began to produce the first megawatts of electricity / Economic news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

On December 22, Power Engineer’s Day, power unit No. 2 was put into operation at Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3.

The solemn ceremony of launching the new power unit was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergei Tsivilev, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov and technical director of the Siberian Generating Company Oleg Petrov.

The launch of the power unit means the start of supplying the first megawatts of electricity to the country’s unified energy system. This event became an important stage in the development of the energy infrastructure of Siberia and one of the key projects in the Russian electric power industry in 2025.

The new power unit will provide additional electrical capacity of 185 MW, which will significantly strengthen the reserves for the region’s energy system, increase the reliability of energy supply and create opportunities for the further development of energy-intensive industries. The total potential of one of the country's most modern solid fuel thermal power plants is now 393 MW. The thermal power of the new unit reaches 270 Gcal/h, which increases the figure of the entire Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 by one and a half times – up to 852 Gcal/h.

In addition to strengthening the thermal foundation of the regional capital, additional power will give a new impetus to the active development of Krasnoyarsk, the construction of new residential neighborhoods and social infrastructure facilities, which is important in the context of the growing needs of the population and industry of the region.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak congratulated on this significant, very important stage in the development of the country's overall energy infrastructure. He noted that one of the key events of the year for the industry was the approval of the Energy Strategy of Russia for the long-term period until 2050, where special attention was paid to the development of the electric power industry.

“I would like to thank, first of all, those who took part in the design and construction of these facilities. These are technologically complex facilities using the most modern Russian equipment. They are important not only for the regions, but also for our Russian unified energy infrastructure in general, which allows us to implement the tasks set by the President of Russia to develop our economy, increase the reliability of the energy infrastructure, ensure the connection of new consumers to the energy sector, and, of course, supply heat and light to residential buildings and social infrastructure,” he emphasized.

Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev thanked the SGK company for the emergence of examples of new modern environmentally friendly coal generation, which is especially important for Siberia and the Far East. “I am confident that next year we will do even more for the prosperity of our country,” he assured.

Technical Director of SGK LLC Oleg Petrov noted: “The new power unit allows us to solve three key problems. Firstly, it will provide reliable and high-quality energy supplies to industry and the domestic sector with prospects for long-term development. Secondly, it will allow removing all restrictions on housing construction in the city of Krasnoyarsk for the next 10 years. And the third, probably the most important aspect is the reduction of emissions and environmental efficiency of the new power unit. All this was the result of a partnership between the state and business, when effective investments made it possible to solve important national problems. We managed to create a unit that meets the most modern technical requirements and standards. This once again proves that coal generation can be not only reliable, but also environmentally friendly.”

According to the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Mikhail Kotyukov, the new generation will create a serious foundation for the further development of both housing construction and industrial development of the left bank part of the city of Krasnoyarsk.

“Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 is the youngest and one of the most modern in Russia. This includes both electricity and much-needed thermal energy. For comparison, I can say that the gigacalorie volume of the new unit is enough to connect more than 450 new apartment buildings, which is several microdistricts. It is very important that the project was implemented using completely Russian technologies – the main generating equipment is from the Urals, Novosibirsk and Taganrog. And it is very important that today this allows us to ensure the highest economic, energy and environmental indicators. We definitely see here the highest level of use of modern electric precipitators, we see here the technology of careful water use and a significant reduction in the load on the atmospheric air of the city of Krasnoyarsk and on our key water artery – the Yenisei River.”

Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 is the youngest station in Krasnoyarsk and one of the most modern in Russian coal generation. Both power units of the station are the result of the implementation of the CSA and CSA-2 programs. The station employs about 750 people. Power unit No. 1 of Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 was put into operation in 2012.

The construction of power unit No. 2 of Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 is a key element of the plan for the environmental modernization of the city’s thermal power plants as part of the federal “Clean Air” project. The project was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin. When implementing the project, SGK applied the most modern environmental standards and advanced technologies. Simultaneously with the turbine and boiler, an electric precipitator began operating with an emission cleaning efficiency above 99%. To reduce the load on the Yenisei, a unique cooling tower with a height of 88 meters was built in the city. A chimney with a height of 275 m was installed. Also, for the first time, a dry slag and ash removal system was provided, which will allow waste to be stored more compactly without expanding storage space.

A set of measures made it possible to close 37 outdated district boiler houses, many of which were located in close proximity to residential areas and had a low degree of gas purification efficiency.

Power unit No. 2 passed comprehensive tests for the readiness and performance of all installed equipment in accordance with design requirements. After completion of inspections and receipt of all necessary permits from supervisory authorities, local authorities and successful certification by the System Operator of Russia, the new equipment began to generate electricity.

SGK began implementing the project for the construction of power unit No. 2 in 2022. The project was built in just 4 years, investments in it exceeded 30 billion rubles. During the construction of the power unit, 38 organizations and over 1,500 specialists from different regions of the country were involved, which emphasizes the significance of the project on a Russian scale.
