An attack by Ukrainian drones, carried out on the night of Sunday to Monday, damaged two ships, two wharves and caused a large-scale fire in a town on the Black Sea coast, in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, the regional authorities said this morning, according to Reuters.

All crew members of the two ships in the Volna terminal on the Black Sea have been safely evacuated, the operational command of the Krasnodar region announced in a statement published on the Telegram messaging application.

The damage led to a fire that spread over an area of 1,500 square meters, Russian regional authorities said. At 02:00 GMT, the fire was still raging.

To date, Kiev has not offered any official reaction to this incident.

Ukraine has often attacked the Krasnodar region with drones, targeting refineries, fuel depots, ports and airfields.

The Black Sea region is vital for Russia's energy exports and military logistics, bordering the Crimean peninsula and within range of drones in southern Ukraine.

The town of Volna is near the bridge over the Kerch Strait, an important artery for Moscow's forces as it links mainland Russia to the Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014 from Ukraine.
