Two Romanians, arrested for suspicion of espionage in Greece / What accusations are brought to them

Two Romanian citizens were arrested in Greece on Monday afternoon, being accused of photographing the basis of the Greek navy on the island of Salamina, near Athens, the coast guard announced on Tuesday, according to the Kathimerini publication.

The coast guard announced that it was alerted by the military, who saw the two men on a tourist boat sailing in the strait between the continent and the island. The coast guard checked the two men and found on their phones photos with the salamis naval base.
The two men, aged 52 and 22, were arrested for suspicion of espionage and taken to the central port authority in Piraeus, writes the publication in Greece, according to News.ro.
The officers confiscated their mobile phones, 4,700 euros and $ 400, and the boat on which they were taken to shore to carry out a thorough check.
The salamine naval base is the largest of the Greek navy, hosting most of its ships, as well as many of its administrative, training and support services. The base, located about two kilometers from the Coast of Piraeus in Athens, has about 10,000 military and civilian employees.
What the port authority said about the incident with the two Romanians:
“On Monday afternoon, the port authority in Salamine was informed about the existence of a professional-tourist boat under the Greek flag, with two foreign passengers (Romanian citizens), sailing in the channel of the Nausathmos Strait and was immobilized by a Greek navy ship.
Following the control carried out by the crew of the patrol ship that moved to the scene, it was found that the two, aged 22 and 52, had photographic materials of the Naval Fortress on the mobile phones they had on them.
The two foreigners were led to the central port in Piraeus, where they were arrested for violating Article 148 of the Criminal Code (espionage). In addition, 3 mobile phones, the sum of four thousand seven hundred euros and four hundred dollars were confiscated, and the ship was driven in the Palouki port in Salamine, to carry out a thorough check of its maritime documents. “
