Tesla CEO Elon Musk's fortune rose to about $749 billion late Friday after the Delaware state Supreme Court reinstated a $139 billion stock option package, according to Forbes' billionaire rankings.
Thus, Musk became the first man in history with a fortune estimated at over 700 billion dollars, notes News.ro.
The 2018 pay package, initially valued at $56 billion, was overturned last year by a lower court, which described it as “unthinkable.”
But on Friday, the Delaware Supreme Court ruled that the 2024 ruling that revoked the deal was “improper and unfair,” restoring the option package in what amounts to a $139 billion win for Musk.
The spectacular increase in wealth comes after, at the beginning of the week, Musk had already become the first person with a fortune of more than 600 billion dollars, amid reports that his aerospace company SpaceX could be listed on the stock exchange. It crossed the $500 billion mark in early October.
Separately, in November, Tesla shareholders approved a new compensation plan for Musk valued at about $1 trillion, considered the largest corporate compensation package in history.
Investors thus supported Musk's strategy to transform the electric vehicle manufacturer into a major player in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
According to Forbes, Musk's fortune now places him nearly $500 billion above that of Larry Page, currently considered the second richest person in the world. Thus, Musk has a fortune almost three times greater than the co-founder of Google, the second place in the Forbes list.
