Darryl Nirenberg, officially nominated in June by Donald Trump for the post of US ambassador to Romania, was confirmed in office by the vote of the US Senate, informs News.ro.

“Congratulations to Darryl Nirenberg for being confirmed as ambassador of the United States of America in Romania. We look forward to his contribution to the consolidation of American policy and to the representation of President Trump in the relationship with one of our closest allies”, the US Embassy in Bucharest sent, on Friday, in a message on Facebook.

According to the quoted source, Nirenberg was confirmed by the vote of the Senate on Thursday.

On June 16, Darryl Nirenberg, whom President Donald Trump claims has 40 years of experience in foreign policy, was officially nominated by the US president for the post of ambassador to Romania, the nomination being sent to the Senate.

American President Donald Trump declared in May that Darryl Nirenberg will be the new US ambassador to Bucharest. He has 40 years of experience and will continue to support US interests in Bucharest.

“It will help us strengthen our ties with Romania, support our military partnership, promote and defend America's economic and security interests abroad,” Trump said.

“Darryl has 40 years of experience in foreign policy, including as counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. A proud graduate of Colgate University and George Washington University School of Law, Darryl has been and will continue to be a tireless supporter of my America First agenda. He will help us strengthen our ties with Romania, sustain our military partnership, promote and defend the economic and security interests of America abroad”, the American president also conveyed.

The US ambassador to Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, retired in May, and the deputy head of the mission, Michael Dickerson, occupied the position of Chargé d'affaires ad interim within the embassy.

Kathleen Kavalec was sworn in as the ambassador of the United States of America to Romania on December 20, 2022. Previously, during the period 2019-2022, she led the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Previously, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Europe and Eurasia (EUR) of the Department of State.
