The President of the USR, Dominic Fritz, said that “basically it's very good” that there are differences between the parties in the coalition, “because otherwise we can't progress”, but that he “absolutely agrees that we need to cool the temperature” as a “style” of operation.
Asked Wednesday evening on Antena 3 how he would describe the atmosphere in the coalition on a scale from 1 to 10, the USR leader answered: “Between 6 and 7.”
“I, at least, said very clearly that the violation of the coalition protocol by the PSD is not acceptable, but, beyond that, we are there not to argue, but to work on solutions for Romanians, and in this sense, today, we advanced on some big themes, where there were blockages in the last months, and we managed to find compromises that are not perfect, and there are many things there that I or USR do not 100% agree with, but still I think there are things that help we stabilize the country's budget and, at the same time, help the economy grow and people have more money in their pockets,” added Dominic Fritz.
“The temperature of public discourse in Romania must be lowered”
Fritz was asked what he thought of the statement by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who suggested on Wednesday on Digi FM that the current coalition risks reaching the point where it will no longer be able to function if things continue as they are.
“I think we have to differentiate between style and substance. On the style side, I absolutely agree, you won't hear me swearing, you won't hear me yelling at a colleague, regardless of which party he's from, and I think in general that the temperature of public discourse in Romania needs to be lowered and words are used far too hard, in general, there's violence in public language, where I think all politicians have a responsibility to express themselves more civilized”, answered the USR president.
He said that the USR cannot give up the “political goals” it has.
“For the sake of peace, we can't all go home and keep our mouths shut, especially when we see that there are still networks of interests that are fighting for their privileges and that are also being defended by people who today are colleagues in the government. This is precisely why the fight on substance must be fought. On the style, I absolutely agree that we must cool the temperature”, concluded the USR leader.
