The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, located in Ukraine but under Russian control, receives electricity only from one of the two supply lines, the Russian management of the plant announced, quoted by Reuters.
The other line was disconnected due to military activities, with the plant's management stating that radiation levels remain normal. Repair work is to start as soon as possible.
Europe's largest nuclear power plant has been under Russian control since March 2022, when Russian forces occupied much of southeastern Ukraine. At the moment, it does not produce electricity, but it needs external power to cool the nuclear material and prevent it from melting.
Ukraine and Russia have repeatedly accused each other of bombing the plant's facilities. It also experienced two complete power outages this month, but has since been reconnected.
In September and October, the plant was without external power for 30 days, relying on diesel generators until a damaged line was repaired during a local ceasefire brokered by the UN nuclear agency.
