Two Romanians are in the top, after the Women's Handball World Championship

The Women's Handball World Championship hosted by the Netherlands and Germany came to an end on Sunday evening when Norway, the reigning runner-up, won the gold, ahead of Germanyscore 23-20. When the line was drawn in the competition, two Romanians also finished in the top, thanks to the developments in this final tournament.

Norway won their fifth world title and are currently the reigning Olympic, World and European champions.

The Romanian national team failed to get out of the main groups at the World Cup and finished the competition in 9th place, the best performance since the bronze won in 2015. Sorina Grozav and goalkeeper Bianca Curmenț are among the players noted, for their developments at the World Cup.

Left midfielder Sorina Grozav had a very solid final tournament, being one of the most important players in Ovidiu Mihăilă's team.

At the end of the competition, Grozav ranked 4th in the top scorers of the World Championship.

Norway's Henny Reistad, the 2023 and 2024 IHF Player of the Year, was named the MVP of the competition, for the second time in a row, after she also achieved this distinction at the 2023 World Championship. Reistad was the top scorer of the tournament, managing to score 55 goals.

In the top of the best scorers, the world champion was followed by Lorena Tellez, from Cuba, with 54 goals. Third place went to Antje Doll, captain of Germany, world vice champion, with 49 points. Immediately below the podium is Sorina Grozav, who finished the tournament with 46 goals and a 61% success rate.

Sorina Grozav is not the only one who stood out. And the goalkeeper from Corona Brașov, Bianca Curmentis on the list of top goalkeepers at the World Cup.

Curmenț finished the competition with the ninth best percentage of balls saved, 39%, managing to save 40 of 103 shots squared.

Anne Bokovszky and June Grogh are in the first two positions, but they played very little, both having 9 saves from 16 and 17 throws respectively, hence their good percentage.

Analyzing strictly the situation of players with more matches, who had to defend at least 100 shots, the goalkeeper of Romania is in third place, behind the legendary Katrine Lunde, who is in the last final tournament of her career with the national team, and her colleague from the team of world champions, Eli Marie Raasok.

5 nations represented in the World Cup team

Norway, Germany, Netherlands, France and Brazil they have players in the ideal team of the tournament. Norway and Germany, the two finalists, are the only teams with more representatives. Playing in her last edition of a World Cup, Norway goalkeeper Katrine Lunde was named in the ideal team for the second time after the edition in 2017. Emilie Hovden is the best right winger of the tournament.

Germany have left winger Emily Vogel and left winger Antje Döll in the team of the tournament.

France's Sarah Bouktit was named the best pivot of the competition. The Netherlands, co-hosts of the competition with Germany, have sent right winger Dione Housheer to the team of the tournament.

The only player not involved in the semi-finals, but who was still included in the ideal team, was Brazil center Bruna de Paula Almeida, who had a fantastic run in the competition, scoring 33 goals.
