Inter are hoping to win their second trophy of the season

The two teams have met in the Coppa Italia 18 times, with history favoring the Nerazzurri: 7 wins for Inter, 5 for Lazio and 6 draws.

It is only the second time that the two teams will meet in the final of the competition. The last time this happened was in 2000, when Lazio won the competition after winning 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico and 0-0 at the San Siro.

The balance between Lazio and Inter in their last 12 games outside Serie A in the 2000s was perfectly balanced with 4 wins each and 4 draws. Inter are unbeaten in their last 9 matches against Lazio in all competitions, winning 7 matches (2 draws) and keeping 6 clean sheets.

Winner of the championship, Inter has already ensured its presence in next season's European cups, where it will participate in the Champions League. On the other hand, Lazio are in 9th place in Serie A and with 2 stages to the end of the season, they cannot get their “tickets” to Europe. Thus, winning the Italian Cup represents for Sarri's students the only solution to play in the Europa League.

Unlike the recent league meeting, Maurizio Sarri will not be on the sidelines for the final due to suspension, meaning Lazio will face Inter without their head coach.

The two coaches prefaced tonight's duel.

I have eight doubts after last Saturday's game because the performance was poor collectively, rather than due to individual mistakes, and there was a lot of hesitation within the team.

When the matches are so close, it becomes difficult to train perfectly, but the players have prepared well and I hope we show a completely different picture in the final. I am very proud of the season we had and the mentality the players showed, even if they made some mistakes in certain games.

I've lost two previous finals on penalties and the one I regret the most is the final we lost with Chelsea against Manchester City. Winning this tournament would be a gift for players and fans, especially given the current circumstances and the difficulty with which fans can attend matches.

– Maurizio Sarri, Lazio coach

We expect a different game than Saturday. It will be a very difficult game. They have many class players, tactically they are a very stable team. It is a final, a trophy to be won, and the mentality will be different. They will be backed by their home crowd, which is an advantage they didn't have last Saturday. We deserved the Scudetto, we deserved to reach the Cup final and we hope to win it.

We deserved to have an extraordinary season and we have to be as calm and focused as possible. We must enter the field with a great desire to win, to rejoice, but also to fulfill our tasks. It won't be easy, but we know that.

This team gave me ambition, I know the reality of Inter, as it was when I was a footballer. I tried all the time to be calm and to be as ready as possible to fight on all fronts, as these players and this club are used to.

– Cristian Chivu, Inter coach
