UDMR President Kelemen Hunor said, on Digi24, that the vote of the PSD senators in favor of the simple motion of the AUR that targeted Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of the Environment, is a violation of the protocol of the ruling coalition. Although the vote itself “is not the end of the country”, the leader of the Union believes that the situation is serious because the coalition gives the impression of non-functionality.
“It is serious in any situation when things happen in a coalition that should not happen. It is not the end of the world to vote for a simple motion, but it is a serious situation when the coalition gives the impression that it is not functional. In the coalition protocol it is written that no member writes, does not vote, does not sign any simple or censure motion. We will discuss it in the next meeting of the coalition, on Wednesday,” said Kelemen Hunor.

He recalled that there is no legal obligation to dismiss Diana Buzoianu, but there is the issue of responsibility for the drinking water supply situation in Prahova and Dâmbovița.
“There is political responsibility for the head of any institution, you can't run away from it if you want to be a minister (…) We can't deny that responsibility must be assumed in this situation as well. By someone, I'm not saying the minister. I understand that the head of Romanian Waters has resigned, but I don't have the whole film”, commented the UDMR leader.
After saying that “if you sit in the coalition you don't vote on motions”, Kelemen added that the current coalition is not working as it should.
“We are not functioning as we should. The government is doing what it has to do, but some political decisions must be made in the coalition. We have not been able to make a decision on the central and local administration, and here we are talking about spending cuts, not salaries,” said Kelemen Hunor.
He reminds that PNL and PSD must quickly agree on this subject so that the measure to reduce administrative expenses can be legislated by assuming responsibility in an extraordinary session of the Parliament in January, before the 2026 budget is adopted.
“The decision can be taken, it is possible, but it must be taken in an extraordinary session in January. Physically, I don't see how it could be taken sooner (…) It is nothing epochal, extraordinary. It is not ballistic missile science, it is a relatively simple matter, but it has a political impact”, concluded Kelemen Hunor.
Motion adopted with PSD votes
The simple motion submitted by AUR against the USR Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, passed with 73 votes “for” and 43 “against”. PSD voted alongside the opposition for the adoption of the motion. The passing of a simple motion does not automatically lead to the dismissal of a minister, being a parliamentary instrument through which the position is expressed on a certain domestic or foreign policy issue.

After the announcement of the result, Diana Buzoianu stated that she will not resign as head of the Ministry of Environment.
“I witnessed a bambilic motion. The result is not a surprising one: I went to the Parliament, I think that all the necessary information must be given. I said very clearly from the beginning, I will not give in, I will not resign, I will not be able to be blackmailed with the position”, replied Buzoianu.
