On Monday, President Karol Nawrocki signed an amendment to the act that tightens penalties, among others. for burning grass and lighting fires in forests, meadows and peat bogs. The upper limit of the fine for causing a fire hazard will increase from PLN 5,000 to up to 30 thousand zloty.

The signing of the amendment to the Petty Offense Code and the Code of Procedure in Petty Offense Cases was announced on the website of the Chancellery of the President.

The amendment to the regulations was prepared by the Ministry of Justice.

Pursuant to the act, penalties for burning grass and lighting fires in forests, meadows and peat bogs will become more stringent. The fine for causing a fire hazard is to increase from PLN 5,000 to PLN 30,000. PLN, and fines for offenses – from PLN 500 to PLN 5,000. zloty.

The amendment assumes the abolition of the penalty of reprimand and the addition of the penalty of restriction of liberty to paragraphs: 1, 2, 4 and 5 of Art. 82 of the Petty Offenses Code. This includes: o activities that may cause a fire, its spread and impede rescue or evacuation activities.

The same penalties will apply to persons who have failed to fulfill their obligations to ensure fire protection conditions of the facility or area, as well as to persons who burn, among others, grass at a distance of less than 100 m from buildings, forests and other similar areas, or when such burning obstructs road traffic.

The same sanctions will be imposed on people who handle fire carelessly or fail to supervise the burning site.

The Act will enter into force 14 days from the date of announcement. (PAP)
