”She was hurt.” Bilozir told why Rotaru remains in Kyiv during the war

Bilozir noted that she “adores this singer.”

“I’ve always had a sentiment for her, I’ve always looked up to her,” the artist shared. “She still finds herself so beautifully in her work. I’m very impressed by this, I follow her example in everything. She looks great, has some concerts from time to time.”

She stated that Rotaru also suffered from the war of the aggressor country Russia against Ukraine.

“She made her choice, she did not stay in Crimea, she still came to Kyiv, because her navel is buried here. She is here, and here she is loved, respected – this is what is needed most in her creative time, for her soul and for her heart,” Bilozir added.

Context

Before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, Rotaru sang in the Russian capital and other Russian cities, and in 2017 she performed at the birthday party of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

2021 President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky awarded Rotar the “National Legend of Ukraine” award.

On February 24, 2022, the singer refrained from publicly condemning the actions of the aggressor, but periodically reacts to massive shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russian occupiers.

On August 24, 2025, after a long pause, Rotaru published her new photographs, in which she was recorded while walking around Kyiv.
