Nicușor Dan: “Being a nationalist is an absolutely legitimate matter. It is worrying when you have a party that copy-pastes Moscow's narratives”

Nicușor Dan, on “40 questions” with Denise Rifai, edition broadcast on Saturday, December 13, 2025
President Nicușor Dan was asked “how he will tear the Romanians from the arms of extremism”, in the Saturday edition of the “40 questions with Denise Rifai” show, and he said that politicians must regain “people's trust in politics and administration”.
In the preamble to the question, the producer of the show talked about the rise of the GOLD and the level of Euroscepticism.
“A very good question (…). At the moment we somehow have a sympathy for the AUR somewhere at 40% in the polls, but many of the attributes of this category of people are not worrying at all, that is, being a nationalist is an absolutely legitimate matter, wanting to preserve traditions or something like that is legitimate, yes, questioning certain functioning of the European Union is legitimate, namely certain ways of making the decision or something”, said the head of state.
Nicușor Dan said that “it's worrying when you have a party that copy-pastes Moscow's narratives”.
“That's really where it's worrying,” he added, pointing out that it's “in the national interest” that this doesn't happen.
“What do we have to do, we have to, on the one hand, because that's where everything comes from, to regain people's trust in politics and administration, as is done by the parties that are in power today, and to succeed in the public dialogue in deciding what is legitimate and what is illegitimate in what these people say,” the president said.
