According to the results of an expert vote conducted by the Gramota.ru portal, the term “zoomer” was recognized as the word of 2025. 42% of philologists who took part in the survey voted for this option.

The word “zoomer”, which refers to a member of Generation Z, is actively used in the media, blogs and public speaking. Once added to the shortlist, it will receive an official interpretation and will be included in the electronic dictionary “Lexicon” of the portal.
According to the Saratov 24 TV channel, the word “burnout” took second place in the ranking with 38% of the votes. Philologists have noted that in recent years this term, in addition to its original meaning associated with the combustion process, has developed a new one – it describes a state of extreme fatigue and emotional exhaustion due to prolonged stress.
In third position with a result of 37% was the red flag borrowing. In modern usage, it most often means a signal of danger or a sign of potential problems, especially in the context of interpersonal relationships.
The short list also included popular words in Internet communications: “prompt”, “pu-pu-pu”, “brainrot”, “imba”, “sigma”, “manifestation”, “highlight”, “slop” and “limbo”.
The campaign to choose the word of the year has been held since 2023. The first winner was the “neural network”, in 2024 it became “vibe”.
