In Russia, there is an increase in the incidence of Hong Kong influenza H3N2. Doctors told how dangerous this virus is and how to protect yourself from it. In a conversation with RT(18+), experts emphasized that this strain does not represent something fundamentally new or particularly threatening.
Moscow State University professor Olga Karpova, immunologist Vladimir Bolibok and doctor Olga Ulankina indicated that typical manifestations of the disease include:
- high temperature,
- headache,
- muscle pain,
- general malaise,
- dry cough,
- sore throat
- difficulty nasal breathing,
- and in some cases, nausea and diarrhea.
Experts warn that the virus can cause complications, such as viral or bacterial pneumonia, as well as aggravation of chronic diseases of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems. Those most susceptible to severe disease are older people, young children, and patients with underlying chronic illnesses or excess weight.
As preventive measures, experts recommend immunization, personal hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment in crowded places, regular ventilation of rooms, wet cleaning and the use of disinfectants.
If you are infected with the Hong Kong flu, doctors advise staying in bed, drinking plenty of fluids, monitoring your body temperature, and using antiviral medications. They emphasized that modern strains correspond to vaccine strains, and vaccination provides protection for a period of up to a year.
