Belarus releases political prisoners
The first amnesty took place in June this year. Belarus released 14 political prisoners. It was the result of an agreement with Keith Kellogg, who met with Alexander Lukashenko. Then three Poles regained their freedom. Among those released was the husband of the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya — Siarhei Tsikhanouski.
The next release of prisoners took place in June. This time, the US embassy in Lithuania reported that after negotiations in Minsk, 52 prisoners regained their freedom.
Polish journalist Andrzej Poczobut was not in any of these groups. Poland has been trying to release an activist of the Polish minority and opposition in Belarus for many years.
