The new trolleybuses introduced by STB in Bucharest are equipped with an intelligent system that prevents the vehicle from starting if the driver does not pass the integrated blood alcohol test.

The Bucharest Transport Company (STB) put into circulation in the capital the new Yutong U12 trolleybuses, equipped with a modern “alcohol interlock” type safety system, which does not allow the vehicle to start if the driver does not pass the alcohol test.
Basically, before the start of the race, the driver has to blow into a device integrated in the board, and the trolleybus starts only if the result is negative. If the system detects alcohol, the vehicle remains locked.
The 22 new trolleybuses have been gradually introduced on lines 86, 93 and 97 in Bucharest as part of STB's fleet modernization process, and company representatives say the technology is already in use in several European countries and is considered an increasingly common standard in modern public transport.
According to a company announcement posted Saturday, April 11 on Facebook, in addition to this safety system, the new trolleybuses offer modern amenities such as air conditioning, USB sockets, digital displays and a low floor with a ramp for easy access.
“The people of Bucharest have had the new Yutong U12 trolleybuses available for a few days – the latest generation of electric vehicles in the STB fleet. The 22 trolleybuses are already in circulation on lines 86, 93 and 97.
These trolleybuses are equipped with an alcohol interlock system. In short, it works like a breathalyzer test: before leaving, the driver must blow into a device, and the vehicle only starts if the test is negative. It is a technology already used at European level to reduce risks and increase safety in public transport.
The Yutong U12 offers air conditioning, USB sockets (type A and C), modern digital displays, a lowered floor with a ramp for easy access and a bright interior with modern finishes.
